Police have put out a renewed call for information after an incident on Duke Street:

Lothian and Borders Police are issuing a fresh appeal for information after an elderly man was robbed within his home in Edinburgh.

The 91-year-old answered the door to his flat in Duke Street on Friday (27th January) and found a woman standing outside.

After engaging him in conversation, the woman pushed passed the occupant and began searching the property.

At this time a man also entered the victim's home and pushed him to the ground before both suspects made off with a three-figure sum of cash.

Enquiries are ongoing to trace those responsible and detectives are urging anyone who can assist with their investigation to come forward.

The female suspect is described as white, around 40-years-old, 5ft 6ins tall with a thin build, weather-beaten face and long dark hair. She was wearing dark clothing and spoke with a local accent.

The male suspect is described as white, around 40-years-old, 5ft 10ins tall with a skinny build and a clean-shaven face. He was also wearing dark clothing and spoke with a local accent.

High-visibility patrols have now been deployed in the area and officers will engage with local residents to offer reassurance and to appeal for information.

Detective Inspector Dave Pinkney said: "This appears to be a completely isolated incident and crimes of this nature remain rare in Leith and in Edinburgh as a whole.

"Nevertheless, we understand that such crimes can have an impact on the community and so dedicated patrols will be visible throughout Leith as we continue our enquiries.

"Members of the public who wish to discuss any local concerns or who want to pass on information that can help our investigation can do so by approaching the officers on patrol, visiting their local police station or by contacting the charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111."

Anyone with any information can contact Lothian and Borders Police on 0131 311 3131.
