I see that in the Southside, Cllr Rose is updating local residents via his blog on when they're likely to have their rubbish removed.

Does anyone have information on when rubbish is going to be collected from the Upper Colonies? - or indeed other parts of Leith? it's been nearly 4 weeks, and it's starting to thaw out...

I note that there have been repeated complaints on this issue and nothing seems to have been done. See, for example, http://www.fixmystreet.com/?pc=EH68DA for more information.

The recycling bins have been emptied pretty often though.

Ally,

I've had a couple of complaints from residents in the Colonies regarding refuse uplifts. I believe there had been no uplift since 19 December! I've reported this to officials and I am happy (if you know what I mean!) to report it again. The latest update I've had suggested that excess bags had been removed? Uplift of bins should have happened by now though if it hasn't let me know - rob.munn@edinburgh.gov.uk and I'll get that fixed.
There have been problems with the Communal bins on Lochend Road and Restalrig Road and again excess bags should have been removed to allow these bins to be uplifted. I've reported 'hot-spots' across the ward, hopefully most will have been dealt with by now. Please let me know of other areas as I'll be in the ward tomorrow morning (Thursday)and am happy to visit sites to see for myself. Thanks for you Perseverance through this.
No sight of refuse collectors in the upper colonies yet!

I have noticed issues with common bins on Easter rd, Lochend rd and on side streets off Bonnington rd too, although I've not been doing a bin survey every day (!) so I can't vouch for the current state of play in other streets.

I'm told that at long last the bins at Lochend Colonies have been emptied. I expect that many will have filled up again with peoples backlog!
I'm told that one of the reasons that an uplift was missed was that when the lorry turned up (after snow and ice had melted) there was another vehicle blocking the access road. Knowing the area I would think that is a not uncommon problem.
Can anyone enlighten me regarding this? Are bin uplifts missed regularly due to access problems or was the recent example an exception? rob.munn@edinburgh.gov.uk
Sorry, I should've let you know when they were emptied.

I doubt anyone would claim that it's easy to get a bin lorry down the street, as it can be bust and narrow. However, normally the bin collection is reliable - unless there's a strike on :(
