Parking in Coalie Park, The Shore

A Local Resident sent us this photo, wondering whether parking here is legal, and whether something can be done to stop it.

Further update - officers are arranging a site visit to look at the issue/location and agree a solution/timetable/funding. More once I get it.

This issue has been raised with me again and I have raised it with the new local roads manager as there was concern that with the reorganisation within the Neighbourhood Partnership it may have slipped off the agenda. Note Ally's comment below from Oct 09 that timescale was 18 months at least. There seemed to be a debate about gates vs. bollards with Countryside Rangers preferring gates (which probably makes sense for essential access reasons - as long as they are kept secure at other times!). I'll chase up the current timescale.

Update on this - I chased the matter up as I had not heard back from officials - it's confirmed as part of the footway network and that it should not be used by vehicles as a car park. The local roads team are going to look at options to control access (bollards etc.) with the proviso that funding will have to be found.

Hi,

Thanks Rob. Raised it at the Leith NP Housing & Built Env. Sub Group meeting last night, and the roads people are on it - although it apparently will take at least 18 months to get more bollards or yellow lines in place, as remarkably that's how long it takes to get a Traffic Regulation Order in place.

In the meantime, the Police are going to try to work out if they can leave "your car might get stolen" type messages on the cars, in the hope that that might act as a deterrent.

I'm getting this checked out. Looks like its become an informal car park. Might be as a result of the yellow lines introduced to that stretch of Coburg Street a few years ago. Unintended consequences!
