- What is the first thing you'd do to improve Leith?
- Get funding to employ 2/3 people to be Leith Links wardens. They would have a nice bothy where they could shelter in adverse weather conditions. Their job would be to keep a caring and watchful eye on all aspects of the Links - children, young people and adults, animals and wildlife and structures (like fences and paths). They would be a known friendly face which could help in all sorts of ways.....a reassuring presence whilst maintaining the Links in good order. They would get to know local people and could encourage volunteering 0 to mend fences, plant buld, lift litter, help with the cricket, support the Festsival. I'm sure there are many older people who would love a reason to go down and potter about the links and meet up with other local folk. It would also help with anti-social behaviour and the 'parkies' could even put in a good work about the young folk who would be able to use a much nicer local environment I'd happyily support such an initiative. I also think it could become a leading example of good practice in terms of building community cohesion and encouraging greater use of the external environment and volunteering. The costs would be well outweighted by the benefits.
